I’m Stan Dishong’s son, Larry. I’ve been told I look a lot like my dad… and my son, Trevor, is better looking than both of us! But more than just sharing his good-looks, Stan’s spirit and legacy are strong in the both of us. For that reason, Trevor and I are driven to tell his story. This web site is where we’ll start.
In telling my father’s story, we have three primary goals… we want to:
(1) Get Stan inducted into the American Motorcycle Association’s Hall of Fame;
(2) Honor and Share the Legacy of Stan’s life – which was dedicated to the Exhilaration of American Motorcycling and
(3) Build up a business that will sustain Stan’s Story for many years into the future.
With your help, we’ll accomplish all three.
My father was an amazingly generous person. Those of you who knew him know exactly what I mean. His advice was always free. As his son, I was privileged to see what it meant to him to share his love of motorcycling with others.
Those of you who passed by his house in Berkley in the 50’s saw firsthand what a ‘hotbed of motorcycling’ revolved around him. He never intended to be famous… he just wanted to live and breathe and share motorcycling. He was very humble. But he kept doing such amazing things with bikes, especially engines, that people started coming from everywhere to see him. He touched so many – and I’ve been amazed at the number of you who have contacted me since he passed away.
Those of you who stopped by to see him at his museum in Port Orford saw, first-hand, that he never lost his exhilaration for the American Motorcycle. He could, and did, talk with you for hours about those 33 incredibly rare bikes he’d restored to showroom condition.
Now it’s time for us to carry his legacy forward. With your help, Trevor and I intend to do exactly that. We invite you to keep checking back on this web site. Like my Dad’s generosity, this site will grow and expand until everyone who loves American motorcycling – like he did – is touched by his story. We believe that is a plenty-good-enough reason to create a web site for our father and grandfather – and we hope you’ll join us on our humble journey of discovery and admiration for the Hog Legend – Stan Dishong.
